conformat unor condiţii anormale participă la stilul anormal al anturajului
său, dar este, împreună cu cei din jur, într-o stare anormală faţă de legea
general valabilă a vieţii. Poate chiar prospera, în particular, dar numai până
în momentul când se va duce de râpă împreună cu toţi cei din jurul său din cauză
că a păcătuit împotriva legii generale a vieţii. Şi el va trebui să ia parte la
declin cu aceeaşi convingere cu care s-a conformat mai înainte situaţiei
obiectiv date. El este integrat, dar nu
adaptat, pentru că adaptarea presupune mai mult decât o înscriere perfectă în situaţia
momentului şi în anturajul imediat. Adaptarea presupune respectarea unor legi
mai generale decât condiţiile date într-un anumit moment sau loc."-Carl Gustav Jung
"Objective conditions may be either
temporarily or locally abnormal. An individual who is accommodated to such conditions
certainly conforms to the abnormal style of his surroundings, but, in relation to
the universally valid laws of life, he is, in common with his milieu, in an
abnormal position. The individual may, however, thrive in such surrounding but
only to the point when he, together with his whole milieu, is destroyed for transgressing
the universal laws of life. He must inevitably participate in this downfall with
the same completeness as he was previously adjusted to the objectively valid situation.
He is adjusted, but not adapted, since adaptation demands more than a mere frictionless
participation in the momentary conditions of the immediate environment. Adaptation
demands an observance of laws far more universal in their application than purely
